Dear Percussion Colleague,

This month, May 2008, I’ve decided to offer something very special.

I’m offering just three schools the opportunity to work with me to create a brand new work for percussion ensemble.

This commissioned work will be your schools to perform for ever - and it will have on the bottom of the score:

You’ll also have the opportunity to do the world premiere the work.

Firstly, a bit of background as to WHY I’m doing this.

In January I offered a special package deal, when I included a commissioned work as a bonus. I’ve already completed a couple of these commissions, and I’ve been amazed at how much fun its been to work on these pieces.

This was just a simple commission as a bonus - they are only short works and a few of them I might publish on the site later in the year.

However, doing this process got me thinking…. wouldn’t it be great if I could really get to know what a school needed, and then create a brand new work just to their specifications…?

And then I could let them trial it out.. and review and revise it based on their feedback?

So that’s what I’ve decided to offer for May 2008. I’ll only be doing THREE of these commissions, and my commission fee is only $500 Australian Dollars ($480 USD, £250 GBP, or €302 Euro). This is payable via school cheque if you wish, or via credit card.

This is a small amount of money to get a brand new work commissioned - especially seeing the amount of exposure and benefits that it can bring your school.

For this I’ll do the following:

1. Send you a detailed questionnaire about your ensemble, how many players, what sort of music your students are interested in, and any local stories of interest which might form a good subject for a piece of music
    
   
2. Write a first draft based on the questionnaire and your needs
    
   
3. Send you the first draft for initial rehearsals
    
   
4. Get your feedback after initial rehearsals via email and do the main revision work
    
   
5. Send you the final revision for performance preparation
    
   
6. Listen to a recorded rehearsal (video or audio, depending on what you are able to do) and discuss with you performance techniques, and any additional revisions that may be necessary via email or phone.
    
   
7. Mail you the final score and CD recording prior to its official publication on ktpercussion.com, so you’ll own the very first copy published!
    
   

I can do virtually any type of work for this, within reason of course!

I’m happy to do a marching drum line type work, or a stage ensemble. I’m even prepared to create a work for school concert band or orchestra - however remember that my area of specialty is percussion…. so it would end up being a piece which used concert band or orchestra, but highlighted the percussion section.

I do mean it when I say I’m only offering this to THREE schools - and this offer will be on the website as long as it is available.
